Individual Adhd Coaching

Adhd coaching is designed to help you understand and navigate your journey with Adhd, and the associated Executive Function struggles that come with it.


Together, we will explore the ways Adhd and its accompanying challenges may be hindering your forward motion. You may struggle with things like prioritization, time management, planning, procrastination, general overwhelm or all of the above.

Through the coaching process, we will discover how to harness your unique strengths, as well as what tools and strategies will help you get from “A to B” in your most significant life areas.  The ultimate goal will be for you to feel more satisfied and less scattered or stuck.

Adhd Coaching involves collaboration, and guided conversations to produce new ideas and actions. It helps to have an open mind, a willingness to reflect on old patterns and thoughts, and a desire to experiment with different behaviors and mindsets. Amy will be honest, direct, supportive and will challenge you from time to time in a safe way that facilitates growth.

Family Adhd Coaching

Adhd is not just an individual diagnosis. When a child has Adhd, it impacts a whole family. It can affect basic things like how quickly you get out the door, how much money you spend on replacing lost items, or how you navigate the unpredictability of social gatherings at different ages. It can also create a great deal of conflict around things like homework, tidiness, and behavior.

The biggest concern I hear is about how the parent-child relationship starts to deteriorate as the parent regularly tries to correct behaviors while the child feels constantly criticized.  The fact is, Adhd kids usually experience a frustrating dichotomy of feeling easily defeated despite being exceptionally bright.  Parents often unwittingly contribute to a child's "shut-down" because they don't understand how their child experiences the world.  A general parenting philosophy may not fit a specific type of child, and parents may need to devise new strategies.

I help parents get a better understanding of their child's Adhd brain, and facilitate the kind of communication that is effective for a particular child. Together we determine what tools and systems the family can realistically implement to support the child and preserve that crucial parent-child bond.

Adhd Coaching for Couples

At times I receive inquires from people looking for Adhd coaching for their significant other. This almost invariably means that Adhd has started to impact both parties in a relationship, and both people need guidance to find their way through it. 


It is much more difficult to address the challenges that Adhd brings to a couple without also having the partner in the room. For example, if a person is chronically overwhelmed, late or forgetful, things like appointments, bills, or household obligations can slip through the cracks.

The non-Adhd partner may conclude that their spouse is inconsiderate, thoughtless, self-centered, or irresponsible which can lead to a great deal of conflict and shame. The best way to overcome these struggles is together, using the tools of information, communication and collaboration. 

 

Once both parties are aware that executive functioning challenges are causing these issues and NOT some terrible personality flaw, they can work together to create better systems. The best outcomes occur when couples are willing to work together constructively as a team. Together we will uncover improved methods of communication and collective problem solving to better meet your mutual expectations. One step at a time.
